Black Star Riders -- the band that evolved out of Thin Lizzy -- is making plans for their second album.  The group has tapped Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott to produce the disc.

Singer Ricky Warwick says they wanted Joe for the job because he's a friend whose passion and enthusiasm for music is "unquestionable," both as an artist and as a fan.

Elliott will be at the helm with Ronan McHugh, who joined Def Leppard in producing their 2008 album, Songs from the Sparkle Lounge.  Ricky adds that he's worked with both Joe and Ronan before, so "it was a no brainer" when they agreed to produce the new Black Star Riders album.  Elliott says he's also looking forward to the collaboration, adding that they're "aiming to make a serious leap forward with the next album."

But it will be a while before they get together to work on the album.  The band plans to begin recording their new slate of songs in a studio in Dublin in October, and release the new disc in the spring of 2015.

Black Star Riders released their debut effort, All Hell Breaks Loose, last May.
