Big fan of monster movies here. Not horror movies, but good old fashioned monsters. Classics. Creature From The Black Lagoon, Wolfman, Mummy, Godzilla, Frankenstein and many many more. Many have been re-done lately and some landing with a splat because they are used the wrong way, some because they are not transferrable to todays young audiences.
One I saw a trailer for recently actually looks like it could be a departure from that. A great story about a man who wants to protect his family, and does all it takes to insure that.
Dracula:Untold is a retelling of the origin story of the beast, told from a more historically accurate bent. Vlad the Impaler was a real guy. otherwise know as Vlad Tepes or Dracula (Son Of The Dragon, his father) A despot ruler from Romania, that was given up as a young man to the Ottoman Empire to be a hostage pledge with his brother, to prove their father's loyalty. He learned very well, and when he went to take his Father's place in the Order Of The Dragon and protect the home front, he kicked many asses, and clearly ran out of gum very early on. His brother converted to Islam, stayed at the Ottoman court, and would play a role in his death years later.
The whole vampire story came from the fact that he had a severe bloodlust. He would impale his dead or alive enemies bodies and heads on stakes leading up to his castle. It was told that he drank blood to maintain his youth and strength. he went through much turmoil, lost the throne and regained it more than once, but he was always looked on in his homeland like a hero. The kind of hero who would croak you if his shoes felt tight on particular day...
Anyway, that was his reality. In October, we will see the latest in the fantasy world of Dracula:Untold
Looks cool. I'll give it a chance...
